Abstract

Scrittore, umanista, architetto, teorico dell'arte: forse nessuno, a parte Leonardo da Vinci, incarna come Leon Battista Alberti l'ideale rinascimentale dell'"homo universalis". Prolifico, colto e ironico, riuscirà nelle "Intercenales" a imbastire una critica corrosiva e sapida dei vizi e delle illusioni umane, condotta spesso con accenti e ritmi da commedia, venata talora di malinconica inquietudine, che si nutre di echi classici e anticipa il Leopardi delle "Operette morali". L'"Autobiografia", un profilo ideale di se stesso, e il documentario e oggettivo "Testamento" completano il ritratto di una figura camaleontica, dell'individualità enciclopedica di un genio dell'Umanesimo.
