Abstract

Galileo è stato uno dei promotori della scienza moderna ma è diventato anche un modello di prosa scientifica che si è imposto in tutta Europa. La chiarezza del suo stile, più che essere un’eredità del classicismo rinascimentale o l’espressione del tradizionale amore toscano per il decoro, è perfettamente funzionale alle esigenze scientifiche di un linguaggio denotativo e risponde nel modo più appropriato a una politica culturale che intendeva fare proseliti presso un pubblico colto e raffinato, curioso di scienza e alternativo a quello formato dal mondo universitario, ancora prigioniero del paradigma aristotelico, del latino scolastico e delle rigide forme del trattato, cui Galileo contrappone i generi meno impettiti e più sciolti della lettera e del dialogo.
