Abstract

Numero speciale che ripercorre la storia delle esposizioni universali europee, a partire dalla Great Exhibition del 1851 a Londra che vide sei milioni di visitatori. I saggi pubblicati nel fascicolo, frutto del convegno internazionale Esposizioni Universali in Europa. Attori, pubblici, memorie tra metropoli e colonie, 1851-1939 (Università di Padova, 13-15 novembre 2014), rappresentano nel loro insieme non solo il ricco e variegato quadro di studi e linee di ricerca sviluppatisi negli ultimi anni attorno al tema, ma mirano anche a inserirsi nell’attuale dibattito sull’“expo” come fenomeno di lungo periodo tra passato, presente e futuro. I contributi sono organizzati nelle sezioni: Excelsior! Le feste popolari della civiltà industriale - Cittadelle espositive e contesti urbani: i resti e il patrimonio - I protagonisti e i pubblici - Il sogno imperiale: metropoli e colonie - Le esposizioni in Italia.
