In recent years, border security has turned to be one of the main objectives of the European Union (EU). The concept has increasingly gained currency in accordance with two main developments: on the one hand, the progressive process of European integration and European external projection. On the other hand, the gradual emersion and relevance of transnational challenges able to impact on European Union’s security and stability.
