Spiegazione, previsione e comprensione

Abstract

Che cosa significa “spiegare” in ambito scientifico e per il senso comune? Quali relazioni sussistono tra l’elaborazione di una spiegazione, e la previsione e il controllo di un fenomeno? Quali rapporti si possono individuare tra spiegazione e comprensione di un fenomeno, e in quale misura queste forme di conoscenza si possono intrecciare? Il contributo intende muovere da queste domande per un’analisi di alcune delle principali opzioni teoriche disponibili nell’elaborazione di resoconti esplicativi e dei loro possibili rapporti con le nostre intuizioni sul tema, sottolineando la rilevanza dei contesti – disciplinari e non – e degli scopi per cui la spiegazione stessa viene elaborata. Le riflessioni su queste questioni riguardano, in termini più in generali, la costruzione della conoscenza, scientifica e non, e le relazioni tra descrizione, spiegazione, previsione e controllo dei fenomeni.
