The aim of the book is to develop a cultural approach to semiosis, recovering the legacy of some masters, mostly European, such as Saussure, Barthes, Eco, Lotman, Foucault. Along with them, another reference point will be the semiotics of Peirce, compared to the contributions about culture of other disciplines related to semiotics—especially anthropology. The comparison of some of the most important cultural experiences of the nineteenth century—structuralism, Marxism, deconstruction—provides the background to the study.
