Lo Stato della Chiesa: ripensando ad un caso di studio.

Abstract

Sia le chiavi interpretative riconducibili all’unità politica mancata sia il ripensamento del paradigma “positivo” del modello dello stato nazionale ottocentesco in chiave di omogeneità, di progresso, di equità rivelano le loro distorsioni e i loro travisamenti ideologici nel confronto con gli elementi costitutivi del “disordine” dell’antico regime e dall’osservazione ravvicinata di un caso di studio, quello delle Legazioni pontificie dal XVI al XVIII secolo. La messa in discussione dei paradigmi binari «centro-periferia» e «libertà e sudditanza» ha finalmente permesso di uscire da una logica oppositiva ed è riuscita a rinnovare il “modello nazionale” interpretandolo come gioco di legittimazioni reciproche: non una costruzione omogenea e livellatrice, di fatto mai esistita in nessun sistema politico europeo, ma una pluralità integrata che nello Stato pontificio costruisce un equilibrio socio-politico di lunga durata fino al tournant del quindicennio francese.
