Abstract

Alois Riegl è stato senza dubbio uno dei pensatori più originali e sistematici, nel non ampio campo della teoria del restauro. Il suo contributo, rimasto a lungo ignoto nel nostro Paese, ha segnato un passaggio fondamentale rispetto alle non sempre lineari e cristalline teorie di gran parte degli autori che lo hanno preceduto. La sua teoria dei valori, basata su una costruzione teorica di eccellenza, riferita all'intero campo della testimonianza documentaria umana, ha fornito un impalcato di eccezionale qualità per collocarvi quello che Riegl stesso definisce, nella sua pubblicazione più nota al riguaro, il Culto Moderno dei Monumenti. Nel contributo in oggetto, vengono messi in luce i passaggi fondamentali della teoria riegliana, mettendo in particolare luce i passaggi e le influenze (di molto successive) del pensiero del grande pensatore austriaco sulla cultura del nostro Paese.
