APOCRINE ADENOMA Definition: Sometime the epithelial cells of nodular sclerosing adenosis show extensive apocrine metaplasia; these lesions may be termed apocrine adenoma. Synonym: Nodular sclerosing adenosis with apocrine metaplasia. Epidemiology: It is difficult to exactly establish the epidemiology of apocrine adenomas, as a few cases only have been reported in the literature. Cases affected both female and male patients, ranging in age from 14 to 72 years. Clinical features: All cases presented as painless nodules. Mammography, when reported, was similar to that of fibroadenoma. Macroscopy. All nodules had well defined margins. Size ranged from 3 mm to 1.7 cm. Histopathology. Apocrine adenoma is characterized by coalescing glands, sometime cystic, lined by apocrine epithelium. No cytological atypia is seen. A scanty amount of fibrous stroma among the glands is present.
