Abstract

Il contributo prende in esame i più importanti sviluppi della ricerca sociale sui comportamenti devianti e sulle loro manifestazioni più radicali ed emblematiche, vale a dire le condotte criminali, focalizzando l’attenzione sugli interrogativi di partenza e sulle relative metodologie impiegate. La ricerca sociale che si occupa di raccogliere dati ed elaborare schemi interpretativi riguardanti i fenomeni devianti, le forme e le dimensioni che essi assumono, le caratteristiche e le motivazioni di chi viola le norme o le reazioni che tali violazioni suscitano nella società, è un’attività particolarmente complessa e laboriosa chiamata a fronteggiare una molteplicità di incognite e ostacoli. Indagare la devianza, infatti, significa innanzitutto accostarsi ad un’ampia gamma di attività umane non facilmente riconducibili a caratteristiche comuni e, in secondo luogo, avere spesso a che fare con comportamenti deliberatamente dissimulati.
