Abstract

Nuova edizione della monografia edita da Electa nel 2003, ampliata e aggiornata con le opere degli ultimi dieci anni in ulteriori cento pagine. Ogni capitolo è introdotto da scritti dell'architetto portoghese, atti ad illustrarne i contenuti. Questi testi, supportati dai contributi storico-critici, consentono di apprezzare le motivazioni poetiche e ideologiche sottese al lavoro svolto dal protagonista di questo volume. Un ultimo capitolo raccoglie le opere realizzate dall'architetto dal 2003, anno di uscita della prima edizione del volume a oggi; tra le opere di spicco le due case unifamiliari a Ponte de Lima, la torre per uffici Burgo a Boavista, il Centro d'arte contemporanea a Bragança, la Casa del Cinema Manoel de Oliveira a Porto, lo stadio municipale di Braga, le nuove stazioni della metropolitana di Porto, il museo Paula Rego a Cascais, il crematorio di Kortrijk in Belgio. Il volume è corredato da un regesto completo, dalla biografia e dalla bibliografia e illustrato dale fotografie appositamente realizzate da Alessandra Chemollo e Fulvio Orsenigoe di Luis Ferreira Alves. Il libro illustra ogni risvolto della personalità di un protagonista dell'architettura contemporanea e offre notevoli spunti per capire le ragioni del successo che la cultura progettuale portoghese si è conquistata negli ultimi anni.
