Abstract

Abstract The digital documentation project of Chiuro’s historic centre represents a significant case study in the enhancement of built heritage through 3D models. The initiative involved a detailed survey of the urban area using photogrammetry and laser scanning techniques, aiming to create interactive digital models that can be integrated into VR platforms and video game applications. Besides serving as a foundation for heritage conservation and management, these multifunctional models enable innovative engagement for citizens and visitors, offering thematic routes and immersive experiences. The use of 3D models optimised for mobile and web devices ensures accessibility to historical, typological, and stylistic information even for non-specialist audiences. Finally, the collaboration between digital survey experts and interactive environment developers has successfully combined scientific accuracy with accessibility, defining a methodological framework applicable to other heritage enhancement contexts.
