Tra Igea e Panacea. Riflessioni su medicina e società

Abstract

Igea e Panacea, le due figlie di Esculapio, il dio-uomo della medicina, simboleggiano la contrapposizione tra le due idee “così vicine, così lontane” della salute: stile di vita e farmaco. Concezioni che vedono la salute come una risultante delle condizioni socio-economiche ed ambientali di una data società e concezioni che sottolineano il rigore scientifico e il valore curativo della medicina a base scientifica contemporanea. Questo libro si propone invece di mostrare come le due “sorelle” possono condividere la stessa dimora, nel rispetto delle reciproche competenze. Gli autori danno vita a un corposo dialogo/confronto su temi cruciali del nostro tempo: medicina alternativa, bio-etica, esperienza di malattia, relazione medico-paziente, razionalizzazione dei sistemi sanitari e umanizzazione delle cure. Usando un linguaggio chiaro e scorrevole, a tratti ironico, offrono un ritratto dinamico del complesso mondo della salute, della medicina e della malattia del nostro tempo. Il testo si presenta come uno strumento prezioso per coloro che si approcciano per la prima volta ai vari aspetti della salute – sociologici, psicologici, organizzativi e politici – tuttavia può essere apprezzato anche da cultori della materia per l’eterogeneità dei riferimenti disciplinari.
