Abstract

As some recent work on sound spatiality shows (Guiu et alii, 2014), it is not useful per se to essentialise sound (i.e. isolating it from the other senses, or by turning it into a simple feature of the space), as much as including it in a context that takes into account the dimensions multi-rhythmic, multi-temporal and transcalar dimensions of urban territory, recalling in some ways the legacy of Henry Lefebvre. The analysis of the soundscape in public space invites us to rethink the transformations taking place in the urban territory in the light of the cadences of sounds, noises, echoes and voices that are produced there, taking into account environmental contexts, temporalities rhythms and social practices to which they are linked.
