Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

Abstract

Geographic information systems (GIS) are an enabling computer technology for the collection and processing of geographic data. As a tool for representing geographic reality in the computer, GIS help us to compile, link, and query information about the state of the environment. Access to the information provided by GIS is a key element informing spatially aware decision making for sustainable development.
