The theme concerning the immigrant minors is generally vaguely discussed, as it is often given the image of an homogeneity that seems not to coincide with reality. Conversely, different typologies of this phenomenon have been identified and are related to it on the basis of the migratory process, the legal status, the native country, the family environment, the access to the host country. The aim of this article is to focus on a specific typology, the unaccompanied immigrant minors, also known as separated children. This is an issue which is emerging in the public debate, and is increasingly being discussed in the field of social research. Indeed, current pedagogical research calls attention to this phenomenon, in Italy as well as in other Western countries.
