Venezia versus Bisanzio, Venezia quasi alterum Byzantium

Abstract

La prefazione traccia il rapporto Venezia Bisanzio dalla celebre frase Venetia quasi alterum Byzantium scritta al doge Cristoforo Moro e al Senato della Serenissima, nel 1469 da Bessarione, che raccolse numerosi codici per salvare la cultura greca dalla distruzione. Un gruppo circoscritto di codici, datati dal X al XIII secolo, di produzione italo greca sono al centro dell'analisi del volume. Si evidenzia l'importanza del piccolo corpus di codici illustrati, tra i quali spicca per eleganza il codice con la Cronaca Universale di Michele Glycas copiato per Barda Tromarchopoulo. Il testo, pressoché inedito all’infuori di Costantinopoli, è un testimone importante dei rapporti piuttosto stretti che intercorrevano fra il Salento e il Bosforo. nell’Italia meridionale e in Sicilia.
