This chapter describes the dynamics of birth rate in Italy and timing of fertility on the base of the most update statistical information provided by ISTAT. It also explores the role of the slow recovery of the average number of children in the first decade of the twenty-first century due to the presence of foreign immigrant population and questions about possible future depressive effects on the birth rate due to the current economic crisis.
