Abstract

Vengono descritte dall’Autore l’origine e l’evoluzione del Fissatore Esterno Assiale – FEA. È stato ideato e brevettato nel 1979 da un gruppo ristretto di medici e bioingegneri fra i quali tre chirurghi ortopedici: Giovanni De Bastiani, Roberto Aldegheri, Lodovico Renzi-Brivio. Le indicazioni maggiormente diffuse all’inizio dell’esperienza dagli Autori erano le fratture esposte e quelle chiuse complesse. Gli Autori successivamente hanno gradualmente esteso le indicazioni riportando puntualmente in letteratura i loro risultati. Le applicazioni che hanno trovato il maggior consenso sono state quelle proposte per le fratture pelviche, la correzione delle deformità, l’allungamento osseo degli arti incluse le tecniche del trasporto. Il FEA ha subito modifiche da parte di altri Autori italiani e stranieri che hanno realizzato il fissatore per polso, il fissatore procallus ed il fissatore monouso, prodotti dalla ditta Orthofix. Tutti questi modelli hanno conservato i principi della monolateralità e dell’assialità del FEA ed anche le caratteristiche originali delle viti disegnate nel 1979 dagli stessi Autori.
