Migranti shakespeariani

Abstract

L'articolo intende mostrare come anche il teatro shakespeariano si sia occupato del fenomeno della migrazione. I casi analizzati sono legati ai personaggi di Shylock ne "Il mercante di Venezia" e a quello di Otello, nella tragedia omonima. Il primo, ebreo, risulta estraneo alla cultura veneziana del Rinascimento per l'appartenenza religiosa, il secondo per la sua etnia. L'articolo include la citazione (con traduzione) di parte di una orazione tenuta da Tommaso Moro alla folla londinese pronta ad incendiare le case di immigrati olandesi nel dramma "Tommaso Moro", scritto da più autori tra cui Shakespeare. Il brano citato è particolarmente rilevante per la posizione di accoglienza, condivisione e condanna dell'intolleranza che l'oratore dimostra.
