Modern Cycling: Part sport part science

Abstract

to identify those which correspond more closely with reality and those which may require amendment in the future. A study of the training programmes used in the more advanced sporting countries, along with the historical data, allows a precise definition to be drawn of the features which have given rise to such increased progress. In terms of the components of an athlete’s physical preparation regime, I would certainly recommend use of the gym, and “dry training”, for general muscular training consisting of stretching and “soft” training to various intensities for general muscle groups, such as the abdominals, dorsals, iliopsoas, biceps, triceps and so on.
