Pietro Riccardi e la sua «privata libreria»: un «ordine di materie» precursore della Classificazione Decimale Dewey

Abstract

Si considera l’attività bibliografico-biblioteconomico del matematico e ingegnere Pietro Riccardi, relativa soprattutto allo schema sistematico da lui elaborato. Questa classificazione, insieme a molte altre moderne considerazioni di natura biblioteconomica, sono da lui illustrate nel volume dal titolo Lettera a sua eccellenza il principe Baldassarre Boncompagni sulla sua biblioteca. L’opera usciva nel 1866 con Nicola Zanichelli, con il quale l’autore condivideva sia le origini modenesi sia l’impegno civile e patriottico. La classificazione gerarchica e decimale ideata da Riccardi appare molto simile a quella americana che Dewey presenterà dopo un decennio, e che si imporrà nel mondo. La struttura sistematica di Riccardi risulta così essere un’anticipazione italiana destinata però a restare pressoché sconosciuta.
