The volume presents in a new updated and largely increased version the problems related to the management, keeping and preservation of the digital archives and electronic records, with specific attention to the principles, methods and tools elaborated by the archival discipline and developed in the research and professional environment in the last years. A specific attention is dedicated to the national legislation and to the national and international standards (like MoReq, OAIS, Premis). The digital preservation is deeply considered with a special attention for the functional requirements and for the last recommendations and guidelines in the area of trusted digital repositories. The main and promising research projects are also considered (InterPARES, CASPAR e PLANET). The author evaluates in details the applied solutions developed at international level (like the Archivematica project) and those under implementation in Italy by the archival regional repositories.
