Il salario mondiale dipende dall'accumulazione; nelle prime fasi occupazione e salari crescono, ma non oltre una certa soglia: a quel punto l'industrializzazione si espande facendo crescere occupazione e salari in aree di nuova industrializzazione. Questa dinamica, pur cambiando la "geografia del lavoro", non sembra in grado di invertire la tendenza generale alla stagnazione e alla depressione.
