Abstract

The essay examines the modes' through which Giacomo Leopardi uses the apocalyptic perspective to overthrow the philosophy of history at the base of apocalyptic thinking. The parodic reversal of this vision of history as a progressive maturing of times until the final upheaval, in fact, and 'functional a bitter polemic against nineteenth-century spiritualism, which face away from the light of truth in the name of the ideal.
