Abstract

This book is intended to illustrate and critically discuss the processes, forms and dimensions of unauthorized Roman urban development, within the broader framework of the processes of self-construction and self-management that strongly characterize the city of Rome. The phenomenon is even more important not only for its enormous relevance (often overlooked in city government), but also for the fact that it is a characteristic of the most important capital of a western country advanced capitalist economy. Rome is the intersection of cultures and models of urban governance: between the West and advanced the global South, between the Mediterranean and the European Union, and so on.
