Marmo Granito Travertino. Prodotto e applicazioni

Abstract

The contribution offers an overview of the main varieties of stone materials used in the 1930s in Italy and gives a summary of the exploitation of quarries and national production. Geologists, engineers and architects rationalize the use of stones through the analysis of characteristics in relation to climate and use and with studies on standardization of dimensions. The "national" stone is used to replace the dividing walls and the more conservative positions support, against the use of iron and pillars, the restoration of its structural function. A complex scenario, in which marbles, stones and granites are adopted for the facades and floors. The exteriors are usually white, while in the interior the material takes on decorative values by color and grain. The essay offers a specialized contribution on the products and applications in the Italian Rationalism architectures of marble, granite and travertine.
