Abstract

Dei 222 soggetti asintomatici (147 F e 75 M; età media 53.0 aa), 64 (28.8%) (24 F e 40 M) avevano segni radiografici di artrosi AC. La prevalenza dell’ artropatia lieve, moderata e marcata e stata rispettivamente di 17.1%, 10.4%, 1.3%. L'età media delle femmine artrosiche e stata 67.8 aa, quella dei maschi 56.4 aa (p0.05). Inoltre, nessuna differenza e emersa tra l'entità dello spazio sub-acromiale nei maschi artrosici (9.1 mm) e non artrosici (9.6 mm) (p>0.05) e tra le femmine artrosiche (8.0 mm) e non artrosiche (8.6 mm) (p>0.05). Gli acromion di forma squadrata sono stati riscontrati in proporzione più elevata nei soggetti con artrosi (57%) che in quelli senza (48%) (p>0.05). Discussione La prevalenza dell’artrosi AC nei soggetto asintomatici e del 28.8%, sebbene in una piccola percentuale (1.3%) 1'artrosi puo essere asintomatica anche nelle forme marcate. Le alterazioni degenerative dell'AC sono piii frequenti nei maschi che nelle femmine. L'età media dei maschi artrosici e inferiore a quelle delle femmine. Tali dati suggeriscono che l'evoluzione degenerativa e legata al maggiore impegno funzionale della spalla nei soggetti di sesso maschile. L'entità dello spazio sub-acromiale non condiziona la degenerazione artrosica dell'articolazione AC. La disposizione spaziale dell'articolazione AC può influire sulla genesi dell’artrosi. Infatti, la prevalenza degli acromion di tipo squadrato nei soggetti artrosici e risultata superiore a quella registrata nei non artrosici.
