The recovery of previously unpublished documents has made it possible to reconstruct a project for the alteration of the piazza adjoining the Piazza della Cancelleria and Piazza Pollarola, partially executed in 1549. Il ritrovamento di documenti inediti ha permesso di ricostruire un progetto di rettifica della piazza congiungente piazza della Cancelleria e piazza Pollarola, solo in parte attuato nel 1549. Il saggio approfondisce il ruolo rivestito in questa occasione dal cardinale Alessandro Farnese e da Girolamo Pichi e discute del rapporto tra questo progetto – che sarà riproposto durante il pontificato di Sisto V – e i progetti di Antonio da Sangallo il Giovane, Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola e Domenico Fontana per il portale della Cancelleria.
