Materia organica y biodiversidad de hongos del suelo: patrones naturales de variacion en pastizales.

Abstract

Los pastizales presentan una alta biodiversidad fúngica y constituyen un sumidero importante de carbono, que se acumula en el suelo en forma de materia orgánica. Aunque los hongos saprófitos y su diversidad metabólica contribuyen a la degradación y estabilización de la materia orgánica, no se conoce la influencia de la biodiversidad fúngica en el funcionamiento de los pastizales. Se presenta la evidencia de patrones de variación de la riqueza de especies de hongos relacionados con (a) su especialización bioquímica, (b) las condiciones ambientales (altitud y geomorfología), (c) la diversidad de plantas vasculares y (d) el cambio de uso del suelo (eliminación experimental de herbívoros) en pastizales Mediterráneos. Estos resultados se discuten en el marco de un modelo conceptual sobre la función de la biodiversidad fúngica en el ciclo del carbono.
