Social medicine has as its purpose the promotion and preservation of human wellness in society. Health is achieved only when people are able to develop and mobilise most of their resources in order to meet prerogatives that are both personal (physical and mental) and external (social and material). Health promotion is the process that allows us to check and improve our state of health. Empowerment represents an indispensable tool for the promotion of health because it promotes self-empowerment, motivation, autonomy, and the development of decisionmaking and planning abilities.
