Prefigurazioni di upcycling | Upcycling Prefigurations

Abstract

The project focuses on the creation of an assembly matrix to facilitate the upcycling of disassembled elements, enabling new structural and architectural configurations. The matrix proposes two- and three-dimensional compositions of upcycled elements, providing guidelines for the assembly of structural and non-structural components. In the construction of the matrix, some key rules are followed: for instance, cut nodes are not combined with existing linear steel elements, due to the loss of structural functionality. In addition, connections are designed in 3D, considering the possibility of coupling metal sections of different sizes in transverse positions. The project also includes the reconfiguration of disassembled structural elements, such as internal steel inter-storey nodes, for new foundations or the reuse of inter-storey floor modules as façade panels. This approach offers a solution for building infills in new or renovated buildings, demonstrating the potential of upcycling structural and decorative elements.
