Scavare il mare del Mille a Ostia antica

Abstract

Le indagini del Progetto Ostia Marina dell’Università di Bologna, attivo fin dal 2007 nel quartiere fuori porta Marina ad Ostia, hanno permesso di documentare i movimenti dell’antica linea di costa, i quali hanno nel corso dei secoli contribuito in maniera significativa alla modificazione dell’aspetto dell’intero lato del quartiere esposto verso il mare, talvolta compromettendone irrimediabilmente la conservazione. In particolare, gli scavi recentemente condotti in uno degli ambienti dell’ala meridionale del Caseggiato delle due scale (IV, ix, 6) hanno restituito evidenti tracce di erosione legate a forti mareggiate successive all’abbandono della città e collocabili, al loro apice, intorno all’XI secolo. In questa sede si intende dunque presentare in forma preliminare il contesto indagato, nel quale gli evidentissimi segni dell’azione del mare caratterizzavano un’ingente quantità di materiali provenienti dal crollo dell’edificio.
