Abstract

Quarantaquattro ettari: un minuscolo territorio a forma di trapezio che appare tanto noto quanto ignoto. Fondamentale luogo di culto per la religione cristiana, ma anche città nella città di Roma, cuore dell'espressione giuridica del governo centrale della Chiesa, ma anche enclave nella capitale italiana, lo Stato della Città del Vaticano è sorto il 7 giugno 1929 (giorno dello scambio degli strumenti di ratifica dei Patti Lateranensi, firmati l'11 febbraio da Santa Sede e Italia) a conclusione della cosiddetta questione romana, che tanto aveva tormentato i rapporti tra Regno d'Italia e Stato pontificio dopo la breccia di Porta Pia nel 1870. Con un assetto più che unico nel panorama costituzionalistico, che tipo di Stato è la Città del Vaticano? Che rapporti ha con la Santa Sede, la Chiesa cattolica e lo Stato italiano? Quali fonti normative lo regolano? Come si articolano al suo interno l'esercizio del potere e le sue istituzioni? E che diritti (e doveri) vi sono per coloro che godono della sua cittadinanza? A tali interrogativi il volume fornisce documentate quanto esaurienti risposte.
