Intersezionalità come teoria critica della società

Abstract

L’intersezionalità ha raggiunto la sua maturità nel ventesimo secolo, in un periodo di enorme trasformazione sociale. Le lotte anticolonialiste in Africa, Asia e America Latina, la nascita di un movimento delle donne su scala mondiale, i movimenti per i diritti civili nelle democrazie multiculturali, la fine della Guerra fredda e la sconfitta dell’apartheid in Sudafrica segnarono la fine di forme di dominazione di lunga durata. Certamente era chiaro che tante diseguaglianze sociali profondamente radicate non sarebbero sparite dall’oggi al domani, e nemmeno i problemi sociali che esse producevano. Quello che era cambiato era il nuovo modo di guardare alle diseguaglianze e alle possibilità di un cambiamento sociale. Capire come i problemi causati dal colonialismo, dal razzismo, dal sessismo e dal nazionalismo fossero tutti interconnessi produsse un nuovo modo di guardare alle possibilità di un cambiamento sociale. Molti iniziarono a sperare in qualcosa di meglio, immaginando nuove possibilità per la vita propria e per quella degli altri.
