Abstract

Nella politica italiana è entrato di prepotenza un soggetto del tutto nuovo, anomalo e poco afferrabile: la piattaforma Rousseau. Il fenomeno è entrato nella consuetudine politica e viene indicato o come una forma inedita di democrazia diretta capace di avvicinare le istituzioni basate sulla rappresentatività ai cittadini o come un attacco alla stessa democrazia. Pensare di blindare la democrazia soltanto tramite una difesa acritica e aprioristica, in nome di valori tradizionali e di principi supremi, potrebbe rappresentare però un errore e la crescita dei movimenti populisti e identitari lo conferma. Nel libro vengono ricostruite gli avvertimenti di alcuni autorevoli pensatori del diritto e della filosofia politica, a partire proprio da Jean Jeacques Rousseau; si ripercorrono gli antefatti storici e culturali della democrazia diretta; si passa in rassegna il dibattito parlamentare italiano svolto in occasione della riforma costituzionale sul Referendum propositivo con le posizioni di illustri costituzionalisti e accademici auditi dalla Camera dei Deputati.
