Abstract

Terra di mezzo, luogo di passaggio e quindi di profonde e significative connessioni tra Oriente e Occidente, la Siria ha non solo assorbito ma anche elaborato forme politiche, culturali e religiose indipendenti e originali. Il libro ripercorre la complessità delle culture siriane preclassiche, presentando e discutendo i diversi elementi archeologici, storici, linguistici e iconografi ci che hanno segnato e cambiato la storia delle regioni del Vicino Oriente antico e del Mediterraneo. Destinato principalmente alle studentesse e agli studenti dei corsi universitari in Archeologia, Beni culturali e Storia antica, il volume può interessare anche tutti coloro che intendano approfondire la conoscenza o riscoprire l’affascinante passato della Siria, perché, come sosteneva l’archeologo francese André Parrot, scopritore di Mari, «ogni uomo di cultura ha due patrie: la propria e la Siria».
