Abstract

One of Aldo Rossi's projects in the first years after graduating from university is the Monument to the Resistance, a piece of architecture designed to commemorate those who died in the Boves massacre near Cuneo. It was a competition in which Aldo Rossi took part with Luca Meda and Gianugo Polesello. In retrospect, the project reflects the contributions of all three. Rossi's is the evocative aspect of the cube, its symbolic and monumental value; Meda's is the synthetic aspect, bordering on the design of an object; Polesello's is the compositional research within an elementary and rigorous geometry, and the desire to find the perfect answer to a question. This text looks in particular at the role he played in Polesello's reflections and the long roots he put down in Aldo Rossi's work.
