Manifesto per un animalismo democratico

Abstract

L’animalismo è una corrente di pensiero e di azione sociale e politica che ambisce a trasformare i molti modi in cui gli esseri umani entrano in relazione con gli animali (negli allevamenti, nei laboratori, nelle case, nelle città, negli ambienti selvatici ecc.). Per la novità e l’urgenza morale dei suoi obiettivi, è uno dei fenomeni più importanti della società contemporanea. Il volume interviene nel dibattito sulla necessità e sui modi di cambiare i nostri comportamenti verso gli animali argomentando una proposta di “animalismo democratico”. Quest’ultimo ha le sue radici nelle stesse ragioni culturali e storiche che fondano le democrazie liberali contemporanee. È un animalismo che vuole estendere l’applicazione dei valori e dei principi fondamentali della vita democratica oltre il confine della specie umana, cioè agli animali.
