Metabolismo urbano e pratiche di riciclo

Abstract

La città antica e moderna erano dotate di un metabolismo in grado di reimpiegare la materia, intesa nell’accezione inclusiva di manufatti e componenti. Analogamente avveniva per la campagna, dove la variazione d’uso dei suoli e l’alternanza delle colture garantiva la salubrità dell’ambiente e dava una risposta adeguata ai bisogni degli uomini. Oggi la città contemporanea e il territorio sono sopraffatti dai problemi di inquinamento e dalla produzione di scarti e rifiuti, determinati da una logica di consumo e di spreco, che ora ci appare miope e ottusa, e il deterioramento ambientale rende quanto mai cogente il tema della salvaguardia delle risorse. Il progetto architettonico e urbano è chiamato, più che mai, a farsi carico delle problematiche del nostro habitat e a confrontarsi con un cambio di paradigma che assume in sé una mutata sensibilità nei confronti dell’ambiente in cui viviamo e obbliga a ripensare in modo radicale le modalità di approccio con cui interpretare la trasformazione dell’esistente, perseguendo la qualità ambientale e il benessere sociale.
