Abstract

Di Roma, che come tutte le grandi città contemporanee oggi si presenta come un meraviglioso e sinistro deserto metropolitano, nemmeno noi di Roma possiamo goderne: a ciascuno la propria parte di un paesaggio urbano percepito per frammenti, dalla finestra o scendendo in strada, nel raggio corto stabilito per decreto e definito dalle necessità quotidiane. Piazza di Spagna la vediamo in televisione e in rete, vuota, come lo è il rettifilo dell’alta moda di via Condotti e come tutto il centro storico monumentale, che le riprese ci mostrano nella meravigliosa potenza scenica degli oggetti, degli invasi, dei traguardi, degli affacci. Piazza del Pantheon appare così rarefatta da avvicinarsi al risultato di un’opera di diradamento di Gustavo Giovannoni, il Circo Massimo e il Palatino al contrario sembrano improvvisamente più modesti, il Colosseo viene temporaneamente riscattato da quella anomala condizione alla quale è relegato di grande rotatoria. Nei piani sequenza scorrono con insistenza gli spazi della città barocca e poi le fontane, che da Trevi a Piazza del Popolo a Piazza Farnese, noncuranti buttano acqua, sempre più limpida, rompendo il silenzio con uno sciabordare che sembra fare da preludio al poema sinfonico di Ottorino Respighi.
