Abstract

This chapter has as main objective to propose a systematization of the perspective of framing in the analysis of journalistic discourse. At the basis of the widespread use of this perspective in media studies and, as regards this contribution, specifically in the analysis of information contents, there is its ability to define the role of the media in the processes of building knowledge and public discourse. This is a perspective which, if well used, shows elements of great interest both on the theoretical-conceptual level and on the empirical and methodological level. The chapter focuses in particular on the methodological dimension and on the complex process of operationalization of the frames in the analysis of journalistic discourse, starting from a classification of the main investigation methods on framing and the most relevant problematic nodes. Also, the framing processes are configured as a cultural and media "device" complementary to other dynamics (starting from the agenda setting), more traditionally investigated about the role of the media in the process of social construction of reality.
