Declassamento funzionale. Centri minori, porti e incremento turistico

Abstract

The harbour areas in minor centres constitute a field for design experimentation that is particularly significant in terms of safeguarding the environment and the sustainable use of resources in the area. The abnormal growth of these spatial ambits, both in terms of size and methods of use, today seem to require new instruments for their design. One of these elements is certainly based on functional declassification, in other words the reduction of traffic and use in order to give the space back the possibility of being used in ways that are more in line with the potential that the locations have, in view of new development opportunities. The essay is accompanied by designs prepared by the author for the ports of Ischia, Forio and Ventotene: three places that are illustrative of three different operating models within this particular thematic ambit.
