Every day of the year, both professional and amateur photographers take an immense number of local snapshots of the Appian Way. However, these photos almost never stand apart from the usual stereotyped images mpressed by Western culture on the landscape of the Regina Viarum. Almost all these photos, in fact, even when describing contemporary subjects, are dominated by the iconic power of the ancient and monumental Roman ruins, an interpretation handed down by the painters of the Grand Tour d’Italie.
