Franco Modigliani. Il primo economista keynesiano contemporaneo

Abstract

In this paper we aim to stress the importance of Modigliani for contemporary Keynesian macroeconomics. Our goal is to emphasize the tight link – which is both methodological and, more widely, of vision – that bounds Modigliani to the economists currently studying macroeconomic issues relying on microfoundations, nominal frictions and market imperfections. Our viewpoint is that few economists like Modigliani may be considered as pillars of New Keynesian macroeconomics. In this paper, we gradually develop this idea by progressively introducing the elements that, from our perspective, are able to support this interpretation.
