The urban forest in the age of urbanization

Abstract

The Urban Forest in the age of urbanization è una riflessione e un aggiornamento sul concetto di forestazione urbana, in linea con il riaffermarsi recente delle teorie olistiche. Oggi si discute di urbanizzazione planetaria e di economie della città globale; in ecologia si descrivono le connessioni della biodiversità a scala planetaria e i cambiamenti climatici superano le barriere provocando crisi a scala globale. Concentrarsi sulle forme di approccio alla forestazione nei diversi luoghi dell’urbanità, può apparire riduzionista. Ma se la città è ovunque, e tutto è città, se il mondo urbanizzato di oggi è una concatenazione di aree metropolitane collegate da luoghi e corridoi di comunicazione, allora cos’è che non è urbano? E soprattutto, quali foreste? Partendo dal dualismo città - foresta e dalle evoluzioni delle idee olistiche, la ricerca cerca di ricostruire il quadro di questa dialettica. I casi di studi permettono una visione dei diversi processi di urbanizzazione, per ricomporre un quadro delle pratiche di forestazione, in linea con le sfide emergenti, con uno sguardo tra discipline diverse, sotto la pressione dei cambiamenti climatici e attraverso i filtri delle dinamiche di crescita della popolazione, dell’alternanza tra implosioni ed esplosioni dell’urbanizzazione, della scarsità di suolo coltivabile e di cibo, di equità globale.
