3D modeling versus 3D BIM

Abstract

La modellazione tridimensionale, è una sequenza ordinata di azioni che determinano una procedura, con il fi ne di rappresentare gli oggetti con la precisione necessaria alla loro realizzazione. Le modalità realizzative di un modello tridimensionale digitale, sono molteplici e utilizzano procedure di elaborazione diverse, ciascuna con proprie potenzialità e carenze. Ognuna di queste modalità organizza il proprio lavoro in funzione degli obiettivi che si prefi gge di conseguire. I modelli 3D digitali presentano infatti diverse fi nalità, tra cui: la visualizzazione del modello che simula la percezione visiva (rendering); l’estrapolazione di elaborati tradizionali per la documentazione di un progetto o per l’elaborazione di rilievi; la trasposizione dei dati per la realizzazione di oggetti tramite macchine a controllo numerico. Il termine BIM indica un processo gestionale, dove la modellazione 3D costituisce solo una delle funzioni. Nella procedura BIM, oltre alla modellazione tridimensionale, è prevista un’interoperabilità dei software, un’integrazione dei processi e la sostenibilità della procedura. Secondo questa accezione la parte legata al 3D modeler è solo uno degli aspetti, che costituisce un elemento di raccordo trasversale, all’interno del quale possono essere raccolti e coesistere dati di diversa natura. Il 3D modeler ha una particolare rilevanza nella parte iniziale del processo BIM legato alle fasi di rilievo (relief), di schema concettuale (conceptual design)e di progetto di dettaglio(detailed design). A seconda dell’obiettivo e dei dati di partenza, si utilizzano differenti procedure legate ai diversi software di modellazione: nella parte di “rilievo” i software possono essere legati alla gestione della nuvola di punti(come Cyclone, Recap e Scene, ecc.); nella parte dello “schema concettuale” ai software di modellazione numerica o matematica (come Rhinoceros, Blender, ecc.); nella sezione del progetto di dettaglio a software di “modellazione parametrica”(come Archicad, Vectorworks, Revit, Digital Project, ecc.).

Three-dimensional modeling is an orderly sequence of actions that determine a procedure, with the aim of representing the objects with the precision needed for their realization. The realization modes of a three-dimensional digital model are multiple and use different processing procedures, each with its own potentialities and shortcomings. Each of these modes organizes the work according to the goals that you will achieve. 3D digital models have different endings, including: visualization of the model that simulates visual perception (rendering); the extrapolation of traditional elaborations for the documentation of a project or for the elaboration of surveys; transposition of data for the realization of objects via numerical control machines. The term BIM indicates a management process where 3D modeling is just one of the features. In the BIM procedure we have, in addition to three - dimensional modeling, interoperability of the software, process integration, and sustainability of the procedure. According to this notion, the part linked to the 3D modeler is only one aspect, which is a cross-link element, within which data of different nature can be collected and coexisted. The 3D modeler has a particular relevance in the early part of the BIM process related to relief, conceptual design and detail design. Depending on the purpose and the starting data, different procedures are applied to the different modeling software: in the "relief" section the software can be related to point cloud management (such as Cyclone, Recap and Scene, etc.) ; in the part of the "conceptual scheme" for numerical or mathematical modeling software (such as Rhinoceros, Blender, etc.); in the project section of detail of "parametric modeling" software (such as Archicad, Vectorworks, Revit, Digital Project, etc.).
