Abstract

La coscienza è intesa come l'esperienza soggettiva che un individuo ha del mondo, dei propri pensieri, emozioni e attività mentali in genere. E la consapevolezza di ciò che ci circonda e la capacità di percepire, pensare e rispondere agli stimoli. Lo stato di coscienza è il livello di consapevolezza e presenza che un individuo sta sperimentando in un dato momento. Il volume presenta i diversi modelli di coscienza e relativi stati di coscienza in tutte le loro forme. Si spazia pertanto dalla coscienza ordinaria durante la veglia alla coscienza durante il sonno e il sogno, dall'esercizio della coscienza tramite la meditazione all'ipnosi, dagli psichedelici alle tecnologie che modificano gli stati di coscienza, dalle stimolazioni sensoriali estreme all'esperienza di premorte. Infine viene offerto uno sguardo verso il futuro, argomentando a favore dello sviluppo dello studio scientifico di questi stati di coscienza, esplorando le diverse prospettive di ricerca orientate allo sviluppo della conoscenza sul benessere e sulla salute mentale.
