This essay aims to present the main digital perspectives in the field of author philology applied to the study of the Spanish theatre of the Golden Age. Starting from the description of Lope de Vega’s methods of writing dramatic texts, the case of one of his well-known plays, La dama boba, is presented. The peculiar textual transmission of this work has led to the creation of a complex digital edition that allows synoptic visualisations of the various witnesses and takes into account the writing process documented by the preserved autograph manuscript. The innovative results of this project are described, as well as the objective limitations and development potential of an edition that has become a methodological reference within the Digital Humanities applied to this artistic phenomenon.
