Abstract

Un certo numero di composti organici come i bifenilipoliclorurati (PCBs), bifenilipolibromurati (PBB), le dibenzo-p-diossine policlorurate (PCDDs), i policlorodibenzofurani (PCDFs) e gli idrocarburi policiclici aromatici (IPA) sono noti per la loro contaminazione globale. Queste sostanze chimiche possono bioaccumularsi e biomagnificarsi nella catena alimentare ed esercitare numerosi effetti tossici negli animali e negli esseri umani. Esistono diversi modi ni cui gli animali possono essere esposti a queste sostanze tra cui l'ambiente naturale o per ingestione accidentale di mangime o componenti del mangime contaminati. In generale bisogna puntare a intraprendere delle misure finalizzate a ridurre il più possibile l'immissione di tali tossici nell'ambiente. Inoltre, è difficile valutare con precisione li loro assorbimento, distribuzione, metabolizzazione ed eliminazione.
